Six Nations: England still on course for Grand Slam
England 43 Scotland 3
England are still on course for a Six Nations Grand Slam after sweeping away Scotland in a one-sided Calcutta Cup clash at Twickenham this afternoon.
Brilliant performances from Lawrence Dallaglio and Iain Balshaw - who grabbed two tries each - and an exceptional late cameo from Jason Robinson, were rewarded with a record win over their ancient rivals.
A question mark still hangs over the tournament because of the foot and mouth crisis but England manager Clive Woodward can have no such doubts over his team, who also smashed the tournament record for tries scored - they now have 22 - with two matches still to play.
A training ground move paid off brilliantly for England just past the hour as Catt’s high kick found Balshaw in acres of space, the Bath star collecting to grab his second try, with Wilkinson once again adding the extras.
It was Catt’s last involvement in the game as Woodward threw on rugby league recruit Jason Robinson for his second cap.
Robinson then brought the crowd to its feet when he received possession just inside his own half and weaved his way through a series of despairing Scottish defenders before eventually being scragged by Logan 15 metres out.
The spirited Scots valiantly tried to rally but Logan could make little of the space which opened up for him down the left wing.
Robinson then darted past replacement winger James Craig and found Will Greenwood with an inside pass, the Harlequins centre racing clear to score England’s sixth try, Wilkinson’s conversion taking England to the highest number of points ever scored by one team in a Calcutta Cup game.
