Macqueen set to retire

Australian rugby coach Rod Macqueen is set to retire in August according to media reports today.

The Wallabies coach will step down at the conclusion of the Tri-Nations tournament involving South Africa and New Zealand, according to The Australian newspaper.

He has a Test match record of 32 wins, seven losses and one draw, the best in 102 years of Australian rugby.

There are seven more Test matches scheduled between now and the time he is expected to retire, including a three-Test home series against the British Lions in June and July.

Macqueen led the Wallabies to the 1999 World Cup and, before last year's loss to England at Twickenham, Australia held seven international trophies.

Australian captain John Eales is also expected to retire at the end of this year.
