Matt Healy: We can sting Wasps with home advantage

Connacht winger Matt Healy believes they can correct the mistakes they made in Sunday’s disappointing 32-17 loss away to Wasps and turn the tables on them at the Sportsground this weekend.

The 27-year old, who made his Irish debut in South Africa in the summer, said it was an uncharacteristic display from Connacht and he believes they can step up at a packed Sportsground on Saturday.

“There were about 15 handling errors — that was pretty uncharacteristic from our side. We will be looking to improve on that and bring it into the weekend.”

Connacht went into the weekend as one of only three teams with two wins under their belt in the Champions Cup and he knows they really can’t afford another loss.

“I think all games in the Champions Cup are must-win. It was a challenge, these two back-to-back games against Wasps at the start of the season. But it’s something that we are really looking forward to. And our future in the competition heavily relies on this weekend. It’s huge, we are back in the Sportsground, back in front of hopefully a sell-out crowd, so it should be a good weekend,” added the Dubliner.

Healy, now in his fourth season at the Sportsground, has enjoyed a high strike rate with Connacht, scoring 27 tries in 68 appearances.

But he has had to battle back from injury this season. He was pulled from the Treviso game two weekends ago at late notice and was drafted into the squad for the Wasps game, having initially been scheduled for B&I Cup duty.

“It’s been a funny few months. I broke my hand a couple of weeks into the start of the season which wasn’t ideal and that put me out for three months.

“I thought I had my first game last week against Treviso but I had to pull out at last minute. It was difficult, but at the weekend it was great to be back out, just back out with the lads.

“I am looking forward to getting out again hopefully on the weekend,” added Healy.
