Edinburgh lock Anton Bresler and his side visit Ireland for the second time in a fortnight knowing just what to expect as the Guinness PRO12 campaign reaches its climax.

Bresler and company battled to a losing bonus point on their last trip over from the Scottish capital when they were beaten 30-23 by Leinster at the RDS. They arrive in Cork knowing nothing less than victory over their nearest rivals for an all-important sixth-placed finish will keep on track their bid for Champions Cup rugby next season.

“We have a really challenging game,” 6ft 6ins Namibian lock Bresler said on the eve of his 50th appearance for Edinburgh. “We know how tough the Irish provinces are at home – we were reminded of that last time out against Leinster – but we’ll be going all out to ensure we stay in the top six going into our last game.”

A repeat at Musgrave Park of their Thomond Park victory at the start of last season would do very nicely for Alan Solomon’s team in this term’s penultimate round as they bid to hang on to sixth spot at the expense of a Munster.

Scotland centre Matt Scott has recovered from an elbow injury to boost Edinburgh’s cause and he underlined just how important this game is to the visitors.

“Losing is not an option for us this week,” Scott said. “It’s a tough place to win but the guys have done that once or twice over the years so we know we can do it. They are in the same boat as us. For a club like Munster, with their heritage, not to be in the top European competition means they will be more than up for it as well.”
