Doyle, with an Irish grandfather who played hurling for Clare, had a big role in helping Ulster beat Munster in the Pro12 (19-17) at the iconic stadium in April of last year.

Shortly afterwards, he returned to Australia to take up a contract with the ACT Brumbies after two years in Ireland, and former Ulster coach Mark Anscombe described his move back to Canberra as disappointing. “We have lost a beauty,” said the coach at that time.

The highly promising Irish-qualified open-side who joined Ulster from Sydney side, Southern Districts, in the summer of 2012 decided to move on and a disappointed Anscombe remarked: “The one loss that stands out for me and (the one) who I’d be most regretful of all to be losing is Sean Doyle.” Munster Rugby have also recruited the services of the highly rated full-back Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino as replacement for Felix Jones, who has been forced to retire with a neck injury.

Both players will be available for all of the opening six rounds of the European Rugby Champions Cup, which starts next month.

Amorosino, who is currently involved in Los Pumas’ World Cup campaign, will start at full back in tonight’s Bronze medal match against South Africa.

He has just completed a season with Cardiff Blues where he made 12 appearances for the Welsh club. Prior to that he played for Top 14 sides Oyannax and Montpellier, and Premiership team Leicester Tigers.

A former Argentinean sevens player, the speedster is also comfortable playing on the wing and the 29-year-old has played 47 times for the Pumas, scoring six tries.
