Doyle, Mahon tries win it for Monkstown
Tierney prepared Cork Constitution for Saturday’s successful Munster Senior Cup mission but was unable to enjoy the after-match celebrations because of his involvement in Ireland’s women’s sevens camp.
No sooner had that ended before he was back in Limerick to help Glenstal Abbey get up to speed for today’s Seat Munster Schools Senior Cup clash with Castletroy at Rosbrien today (3.pm).
Neither of today’s schools have been to the forefront of the tournament although Castletroy were victorious in 2008. Glenstal have been involved in many memorable cup battles but still have to wait for a first title.
Tierney would love to guide them to one. On this year’s side he said: “We have some very good players, we’re a solid team. There’s a lot of talk about CBC, Rockwell, Crescent and Pres, and rightly so, Glenstal haven’t that tradition but there are a lot of players back from last year, guys who were in fifth year, so they have experience of the tournament and they lose their two matches last year, the qualifier this year would have been the first game they won. We’ll be competitive though and we hope to give Castletroy a run. After that, I don’t know. One way or another we’ve got two games to look forward to, it would be lovely to get a win and then perhaps get an easier draw in the knock out stage, but overall it’s all about performing in the real knock out stage.”
