Fans warned to be wary of potential travel chaos
With ticket sales hovering at just under 24,000 at close of business yesterday, and the prospect of substantial numbers leaving from Cork after work around 5pm, the current detour around Buttevant on the main N20 link between the cities has potential for serious delays as the scramble to get to the game in time for the 7:45pm kick-off begins.
Munster are also recommending the train service between Cork and Limerick with a 5.20pm service leaving Kent Station and arriving via Limerick Junction at 6.59pm.
Irish Rail have also put on an additional service back to Cork from Limerick, leaving Colbert Station at 10.35pm, arriving Cork at 12.05am.
The remaining 1,600 or so match tickets will go on sale at Thomond Park today from 10am.
Meanwhile, Munster’s next European visitors to Limerick, Clermont Auvergne on December 6, will have to do so without back-row forward Julien Bardy.
The Portugal international flanker was yesterday handed a five-week ban for striking Saracens and England number eight Billy Vunipola with his knee during last Saturday’s European Champions Cup clash at Allianz Park.
Tournament organisers said that Bardy, who was cited for the offence, pleaded guilty during an independent disciplinary hearing held in Dublin yesterday.
In a statement, European Professional Club Rugby said: “In upholding the citing complaint, the judicial officer determined that the offence warranted a red card and that it was in the mid-range (eight weeks) of the IRB (International Rugby Board) sanctions for offences of this nature.
“As there were no aggravating factors, he reduced the suspension by three weeks due to the player’s guilty plea, his clean record and good conduct and remorse during the hearing.
“Bardy is therefore free to play on Monday, December 8.”
The 29-year-old will therefore miss Sunday’s Pool 1 match against Sale Sharks with Clermont’s trip to Munster the final game of his suspension.
