Top World Cup tickets set to cost €820
Debbie Jevans, chief executive of England RWC 2015, said the top tickets were likely to be around €800 but high-priced tickets were needed to allow organisers to sell others for as low as €8 and €16.
The tournament organisers also have to raise a total of €93m to meet the guarantee made to the International Rugby Board, and ticket revenue is their only income.
Jevans, speaking to reporters at the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s European summit in London, said: “We anticipate that the top price for the final will be around that mark [€820] but below that there will be other entry prices, they are not going to be all at that level.
“You do have to have a top price if you are going to have accessibility lower down and I am passionate about having those lower prices. There is a guarantee that we have to hit and to do that there are going to have to be some high prices.
Meanwhile England, Scotland and Wales have submitted bid proposals to host next year’s European Club Rugby finals in May, organiser European Rugby Cup has announced, after France withdrew its application over the uncertainty of the availability of the Stade de France.
The three unions hope to host the Amlin Challenge Cup final on May 23 and the Heineken Cup final a day later at the end of the forthcoming season.
“The bids will now be considered by the board of ERC with a decision set for early July,” an ERC statement read.
Under the proposals, the 2014 Heineken Cup final would be staged at Twickenham (capacity: 81,500), the Millennium Stadium (74,500) or Murrayfield (67,000).
