Leinster have moved swiftly to fill the breach caused by Isa Nacewa’s imminent retirement by announcing the signing of South African Test full-back Zane Kirchner for next season.

Kirchner, 28, will leave South African Super Rugby franchise the Bulls when his current deal expires on October 31, having turned down the offer of a contract extension.

Leinster, who yesterday confirmed the signing of the 24-capped Springbok on a two-year deal may seek an early release of their new man from the Bulls, but regardless, head coach Joe Schmidt expressed his delight at the capture of a back, whose versatility appears to be in the Nacewa mould.
