Cashel earn tilt at Cork Con
The Tipperary men handed Old Crescent a stunning 49-20 spanking to add to their shock success over last season’s finalists Bruff in round one.
UL Bohemians became the third side into the last four with a 22-6 victory at Sunday’s Well.
Mossie Lawlor’s try and Ben Martin’s kicking had Bohs 10-6 up at the break, their scores bookended by penalties from the hosts’ Ian O’Regan. But the Limerick Charity Cup winners notched two tries in the opening four minutes of the second half through Derek Farrell and Martin McPhail to move themselves out of sight.
In the outstanding first round tie, Shannon weathered a decent start from Midleton to eke out a 24-12 success at Towns Park.
Two Paul Daly penalties had the east Cork men 6-0 to the good but Rob Guerin’s 14th-minute try settled Shannon. Four Ben Sargent penalties to two from Daly pushed the visitors out to 17-12 before Shannon finally killed Midleton’s resistance off with a converted James Murphy try in the last minute to advance to a quarter-final clash with Young Munster.
Just one of the three ODM Cyril Fitzgerald Plate clashes went ahead, with Bruff defeating Highfield 20-13 at Kilballyowen Park.
