St Mary’s likely to prove too powerful for Douglas in cup

THIS weekend is a relatively quiet one on the Munster Junior front, although there are still a number of intriguing games in the Junior Cup, with six second round matches and one outstanding first found game down for decision.

Douglas caused the shock of the first round when they claimed an away victory over Killorglin. Up until then the Kerry side were the leading lights in the Third Division with an unbeaten run. Douglas did come close to stopping that a few weeks earlier in the league at Moneygourney but ensured they got things right second time round with Mark Coveney and Shane Burke scoring vital tries.

The Cork side will have to step up another few gears this weekend as they face an even tougher task with a trip to Corbally, where Second Division promotion-chasers St Mary’s await. The Limerick outfit have a well-balanced side, with John Barry and Matthew Ryan among their standout performers. They should prove to be too powerful for the visitors, although any complacency could see them in for a tough game.
