IRELAND’S Second and Third Division rugby clubs look set for confrontation with their first division rivals.

Rugby clubs set for culling confrontation

At least that could be the case after the senior clubs from Munster in the lower divisions vowed to fight any plan to cull Division One of the AIB League from 16 to 10 clubs and increase Divisions Two and Three to 19 clubs each.

The Munster clubs met in Mallow earlier this week in advance of a national AGM of Division Two and Three clubs in Dublin last night, the outcome of which should be known today.

It all follows on a recent proposal put forward by AISRCA (All Ireland Senior Rugby Clubs Association), who proposed the changes from the present format.

But, if there appeared to be some positive reaction last week, the latest view will surely lead to some more debate, and provide much more food for thought at Irish Rugby Football Union headquarters in Lansdowne Road.

The meeting involved the following Clubs- Bruff RFC, Clonakilty RFC, Dolphin RFC, Highfield RFC, Midleton RFC, Nenagh Ormond RFC, Old Crescent RFC, Sunday’s Well RFC, Thomond RFC, University College Cork RFC, Waterpark RFC, and Young Munster RFC.
