The honour, bestowed on the pair by their fellow players, will see Wood and Johns join Mick Galwey and Peter Clohessy, who gained acceptance into the Hall of Fame last year.

Wood, the former Lions, Ireland, Munster and Harlequins hooker, won 58 caps for his country, and captained the side a record 33 times.

He made his international debut on Ireland’s tour of Australia in June 1994, went on to win two Lions tours, and was voted IRB Player of the Year in 2001 before retiring last year after saying: “My heart and my head is willing, but my body has had enough“.

Johns received his first cap whilst a student at Dublin University against Argentina in 1990 and went on to represent Ireland, Ulster and Saracens with distinction, before retiring from international rugby after playing his last Test for Ireland against Japan in November 2000.
