Jockey Berry in hospital after Clonmel fall

Fran Berry suffered a wretched evening at Clonmel where he was taken to hospital for examination on a suspected shoulder blade injury today.

The rider was aboard Caliente in the Mullinahone Maiden when the filly appeared to break down, and in trying to pull her up he was sent to the turf, bringing down Ronan Whelan's mount Nia's Caul in the process.

Whelan was quickly to his feet after the incident, but Berry was not so fortunate and was attended to on the track for some time before being placed in the ambulance.

He was conscious and taken for X-rays at Clonmel Hospital, according to Dr John Downey at the track.

To increase the pain for Berry, Pat Smullen stood in on Positive Vibes in the following Tickincor Handicap, taking the 10-furlong event by four and a half lengths for Arthur Moore.

Berry had earlier enjoyed better luck as the Gerry O'Leary-trained Bobskier gained his first success for over two years in the Tipperary Claiming Race.
