Carlton House is set to drop back in trip in the Transformers & Rectifiers Summer Mile at Ascot on Saturday.

Trainer Sir Michael Stoute has confirmed the Queen’s colt will take his chance in the Group Two on the round course at the Berkshire track.

The four-year-old has not run over that distance since his juvenile days when he won at Newbury on his second start.

The son of Street Cry was in action over a mile and a quarter at Ascot on his latest start when he was second to So You Think in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Third in last season’s Investec Derby and then fourth in the Irish equivalent, Carlton House was off the track after the Curragh until he made a triumphant return in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in late May.

“He’s run two very creditable races over 10 furlongs and obviously he was a Dante winner last year over 10 furlongs, but we’re going to try a mile on Saturday,” Stoute told Sky Sports News.

Among his 12 possible rivals at Ascot are Premio Loco, Pastoral Player, Questioning, Red Jazz, Sri Putra and Tullius.
