Maguire sent to hospital after Cartmel fall

Jason Maguire was taken to hospital in Lancaster for assessment on a suspected shoulder injury following a fall at Cartmel this afternoon.

The Grand National-winning jockey was taken away from the rural venue by air ambulance following a fall from the Cathy Hamilton-trained Keyneema at the 10th fence in the Grant Thornton Handicap Chase.

Maguire was able to walk into the ambulance with his arm in a sling.

"One of the lads has gone to pick him up at the hospital," said Maguire's main supporter, trainer Donald McCain.

"At first someone said it was his arm, then they said he might have dislocated his shoulder, but we'll know more later.

"I spoke to the hospital and they said they were doing a couple more tests and were hoping he could come out later this evening."

It was back down to earth with a bump for Maguire as he had notched a 13-1 double in the first two races for McCain.

He struck first on Sara's Smile (11-8 joint-favourite) in the EBF Kendal Caravans "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle and followed up on Gulf Punch (5-1) in the Hadwins Handicap Hurdle.
