Flat out for the season

Willie Mullins has suffered a blow with the news his chief Irish Independent Arkle Chase hope Flat Out will miss the rest of the season through injury.

The six-year-old had made an eyecatching debut over fences at Punchestown when winning by 13 lengths and was thrown in at the deep end on Sunday for the Irish Arkle at Leopardstown just two weeks later.

He appeared to be travelling as well as anything when hitting the second-last fence hard, catapulting Mullins’ nephew, Emmet, from out of the saddle.

The trainer told the Irish Times: “He has a little chip fracture on a hind leg and is out for the season.”

Flat Out had been as low as 10-1 for the Cheltenham event.
