Officials at Stratford will hold a second inspection at 11.30am ahead of this afternoon’s meeting.

Temperatures dropped well below freezing overnight and an initial check at 9am showed the track to be unfit for racing.

However, clerk of the course Stephen Lambert reports conditions to be improving and remains hopeful of the fixture going ahead.

He said: “The track is still not raceable at the moment and we will look again at 11.30am.

“We got down to -8C overnight but the forecast is for 6C later this morning so we are hopeful.

“Things are improving but unfortunately it looks like it will go down to a photo finish.”
