Aqlaam chasing 'dream' Marois win
William Haggas admits it would be a “dream” to think that Aqlaam could follow up the victory of King’s Apostle in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday.
Last year’s Jersey Stakes winner has steadily improved this season since coming back from injury and won the Summer Mile at Ascot on his last start after running well in the Queen Anne.
While Haggas respects the exalted opposition such as Goldikova and Silver Frost, everything has gone well with the four-year-old’s preparation and confidence is high following his stablemate’s victory in last weekend’s Prix Maurice de Gheest.
“Everything is good with him, he seems fine and obviously we are hoping it stays dry which would suit him a lot more,” said Haggas.
“He’s very well and we are looking forward to it.
“It wasn’t a sensational race he won last time but he won, it was a Group Two race, he did it well, it was his first time round a bend and he did that fine and we just hope he runs well.
“Obviously the filly (Goldikova) is going to be very hard to beat and with the French Guineas winner (Silver Frost) in there too – it is going to be a tough race.
“But, you never win these races if you don’t run in them so there we are.
“If he could win it after what happened last week with King’s Apostle it would be dream stuff.”
