Noodles Blue Boy bags Beverley honours
Ollie Pears maintained his magnificent course form at Beverley with the victory of Noodles Blue Boy in the Turf Tv Selling Stakes today.
Pears has now won with six of his eight runners on the Westwood and the market spoke loudly of his chance.
Backed from 3-1 into 15-8 favourite, Tony Hamilton drove him out to beat Simple Rhythm by two and a quarter lengths.
"I'm a bit cautious with what I run here but we've got a great record at Beverley," said Pears.
"He won well here on his debut but lost the plot after that.
"To be honest, this is probably as good as he is - a selling plater.
"I would have been scratching my head if he had not have won as they were a bad bunch."
There were no bids for the winner at the subsequent auction.
Dr Jameson was made to fight to the death to justify skimpy odds in the Jockeys Loft For Great Food Maiden Stakes.
Richard Fahey's 4-11 favourite, who finished third behind two decent sorts at Beverley on his debut, found Steel Trade a determined foe under 7lb claimer John Cavanagh.
The two horses initiated a blockbuster finish, from which the streetwise Paul Hanagan got his charge home by a neck.
Robin O'Ryan, assistant to Fahey, said: "He was entitled to win this - but did it despite greenness and the ground, which was probably too lively.
"We'll take things step by step, but he will probably go further (in trip) than less in the future."
