This afternoon’s National Hunt meeting at Hexham has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Course officials first inspected the track yesterday afternoon at 2pm and hopes were high once a milder night was forecast.

However, temperatures once again dropped below freezing leaving the track unraceable.

Clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell said: “We’ve had to abandon I’m afraid.

“It got down to minus two again last night and the course is frozen solid, there is no chance it would come out of the ground in time.”
