Leger second on course for Newmarket
Ladbrokes St Leger runner-up Unsung Heroine is one of 12 possibles for the inaugural Pride Stakes at Newmarket this weekend.
The daughter of High Chaparral has only been seen in racecourse action three times, winning her first two starts before chasing home Conduit in the season’s final Classic at Doncaster.
Fozzy Stack, son and assistant to trainer Tommy, has been delighted with her subsequent progress and is hopeful she will run a big race at the weekend.
“She has had a bit of a break since the Leger and seems really well in herself,” said Stack.
“The plan is to run at this stage. She wouldn’t want rock-hard ground, but as long as she can get her toe in a little bit she should be fine.”
Jim Bolger has supplemented his filly Shreyas, who was second to Unsung Heroine in a Fairyhouse maiden back in July.
Sir Michael Stoute could saddle Crystal Capella who is chasing a five-timber in the Group Two event, while Dar Re Mi, second to none other than Zarkava on her penultimate start, is also a possible.
Ice Queen, Jane Austen, Perihelion and Sail could all represent Aidan O’Brien, while the 12-strong line-up is completed by Under The Rainbow, Armure, Arthur’s Girl and Saphira’s Fire.
