Hamilton to inspect for Friday

Friday’s meeting at Hamilton hinges on a 2pm inspection on Thursday after Wednesday’s card was a late casualty due to the wet weather.

An unsafe patch of ground on the pull-up after the winning line caused today’s fixture to be called off just before noon.

The going is now described as soft, waterlogged in places.

“Given the amount of rain we have to call an inspection,” said clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski.

She explained how Wednesday’s meeting came to be abandoned after prospects had looked bright following an early morning inspection.

“I’m very disappointed, we were raceable at 7am. We’d had five millimetres of rain overnight which made it 30.4mm in the previous 24 hours. We had been forecast between five and eight millimetres during the whole of today,” she added.

“But between 9.30 and 10am the rain started really heavy and it never stopped. There’s a waterlogged patch just after the winning line in the pull up. Most of the track is absolutely fine, but this patch is just unsafe.”
