Culhane back in business
Tony Culhane rode his first winner since returning from 15 months out of action with a chance ride on Welsh Emperor at Haydock today.
Replacing Neil Callan, who was stuck in traffic, Culhane enjoyed an all-the-way success on Tom Tate's nine-year-old.
The 10-11 shot proved a willing partner as he went on to score by a length and three-quarters from We'll Come in the Stanleybet Sports Conditions Stakes.
Culhane, who returned to the fore at Hamilton on Thursday, damaged his neck and back in a fall at Wolverhampton in April 2007 and
He was then hit with a one-year after being found guilty of aiding or abetting individuals to lay or back horses with the benefit of inside information.
"Welsh Emperor is nine now and whether he's quite as good as we was I'm not sure," Tate told Racing UK.
"He's very well and he'll follow the pattern of the last two seasons and go to Newbury and Longchamp in the autumn if it's wet enough."
