Makin hurt in gallops spill
Phillip Makin is in hospital with a crushed vertebra in his back following a fall on the gallops.
The accident happened while Makin was exercising horses at David Barronâs Thirsk stable in England.
The jockey was taken to Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
âHeâs crushed his number four vertebra. Obviously he will be out for a while, a month at least, but it only happened this morning so we will just have to wait and see,â said Makinâs agent Richard Hale.
Makin missed out a winner at Redcar with Tony Hamilton replacing him on Kiwi Bay for Michael Dods in the Anderson Barrowcliff Handicap.
Dods said: âIt is a shame for Phillip, he had a fall when riding out at David Barronâs stable and I believe he has a crushed veterbra, but he can move his hands so hopefully it is not too serious.
âHe is in hospital at Northallerton and I am going across to see him now.â
