Getaway ready for Coronation test

A “mini King George” is how connections of Getaway describe tomorrow’s Juddmonte Coronation Cup at Epsom.

A “mini King George” is how connections of Getaway describe tomorrow’s Juddmonte Coronation Cup at Epsom.

The five-year-old is owned by Baron Georg von Ullmann, whose colours were carried to victory in this race by Shirocco two years ago.

Shirocco was the last of six Coronation Cup winners from the Andre Fabre stable and the French trainer is following the same route with Getaway.

He was a convincing winner of the Jockey Club Stakes a month ago – the race Shirocco took en route to Epsom.

“Mr Fabre is very pleased with him and his preparation has been good,” said Paul Harley, the owner’s racing manager.

“He was very impressive at Newmarket. He’s stronger this year, he appears to be getting better and the ground won’t worry us.

“It’s a competitive field and looks like a mini King George. The only thing that’s missing from the race is one of the better three-year-olds.”
