Bara advertises classic claims

Muthabara, the subject of ante-post support in recent weeks for the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas, was trimmed further in the betting after securing a key trial at Newbury.

Stan James and Cashmans cut her to 4-1 for the Classic, while Ladbrokes were more impressed in making her their new 7-2 favourite after she took the Dubai Duty Free Stakes.

Totesport quote her as their 100-30 joint-favourite alongside Nell Gwyn winner Infallible, with Coral and William Hill offering 9-2.

John Dunlop’s filly looked in trouble with two furlongs to go but picked up stylishly under Richard Hills in the final furlong to collect by a length and a quarter and maintain her unbeaten record.

Dunlop said: “It was complicated as we were drawn 10 of 13 and two of the runners came stands side and Richard followed, which didn’t work out too well for her.

“I was slightly concerned at the furlong pole, but she’s won well in the end and Richard said the last half-furlong was the best part of the race for her.

“She’s won with a fair bit in hand and going up to a mile will suit her well.”

The colts’ trial, the Bathwick Tyres Greenham Stakes, was less enlightening as Richard Hannon’s Paco Boy – who is not yet engaged in the 2000 Guineas - completed a four-timer under Richard Hughes.

Big guns Confront and Sir Gerry both failed to fire as the 6-1 winner burst through inside the final furlong for a three-quarter-length verdict.

Hannon said: “Richard said he wasn’t liking the ground, but he thinks he will stay a mile.

“After winning this we have got the money now, so we will have a good think about supplementing him for the Guineas.”

Stan James, who go non-runner no-bet from Monday, offer 25-1 about Paco Boy succeeding at Newmarket on May 3.

Royal And Regal coped with a step back in trip to grind out victory on his first start for Michael Jarvis in the Dubai Tennis Championships Stakes.

Tempelstern did a sterling job setting the pace but was overhauled by the 13-2 winner who crossed the line with a neck to spare over Zaham.

Jarvis said: “I am delighted he has come out and won over a mile and a half as he is a two-miler really.

“He needs a good, strong gallop and the plan was to come here and then move on to the Yorkshire Cup.”

Further Classic clues were on show earlier as Moyenne Corniche stamped his class on the Dubai International Airport Maiden Stakes over the straight mile to earn a 40-1 quote with the sponsors for the 2000 Guineas.

Trainer Geoff Wragg said: “That will have excited the owner in Hong Kong and we will see how he comes out of the race and decide about the Guineas.”

Michael Stoute’s Lang Shining made amends for missing the cut for the Lincoln as Ryan Moore got him home by a neck as the 9-2 favourite in the Bloor Homes Spring Cup Handicap.
