Zanir (3-1) fared best through stamina-sapping conditions at Kempton to take the intercasino.co.uk Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle.

This was a significant step down in class for Tom George’s French recruit from taking on Harper Valley and Franchoek at Cheltenham last time.

He travelled smoothly for Noel Fehily and when Red Flare crashed horribly through the second-last flight, Zanir drew away from Mark Of Love to score by 11 lengths.

“They went no early gallop, which suited him and the more I got him going, the better he jumped,” remarked Fehily.
