Sunday’s meeting at Carlisle is already under threat due to excessive rain in the area this week.

An inspection has been called for 8.30am on Friday but clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell is already fearing the worst.

“We’ve had a lot of rain recently and there is more forecast,” he said.

“Prospects of racing going ahead are bleak and we are not optimistic at this stage. We are halfway through completing the installation of a new drainage system and it is the area we have not got round to yet where we are having the problem.”
