Hexham became a casualty of the recent cold snap after track officials abandoned this afternoon’s meeting following a 7.15am inspection.

Overnight temperatures dropped to minus-one degrees which left the situation untenable after the Northumberland venue endured heavy rain and snow showers earlier in the week.

Clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell said: “Most of the track is raceable, but parts are still frozen so we’ve had to abandon.

“The track has been that wet due to the bad weather we’ve had recently that it was unable to take much frost.”
