Southwell back in business

Southwell finally reopens on Tuesday following the devastation of the track due to the summer floods.

The course has been shut since June when facilities were severely damaged and the track submerged by water.

Due to the destruction, a temporary reduction in the stabling capacity to 74 has been enforced by Southwell officials.

However, all those boxes will be full for tomorrow’s meeting in a great show of support from owners and trainers.

“Everything will be ready, within reason,” said Southwell general manager Nathan Corden.

“There will be limited public facilities open. We hope to have the first floor of the main stand open and the majority of downstairs open.

“There will be no owners’ and trainers’ bar and one of the bars in the grandstand ground floor might not be open – we will see how the workmen get on with that.

“I’m looking forward to it, it has been six months since we last raced and it will be great to have racing back here.

“We have been brilliantly supported, we have eight races so we can’t complain at all.”

The first race commences at 12.00pm, with the doors opening to the public at 10.20am.
