Bolger ace spot-on for Cheltenham return

Spot The difference will bid for an incredible fourth successive victory in the BGC Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham on Friday.

Enda Bolger’s teenager will be a 15-year-old on New Year’s Day but his handler reports him to be in fine form as he returns to the scene of some of his most famous triumphs.

He has won six times over the unique track and another victory for the veteran would surely bring the house down.

“He’s still on course, he leaves tomorrow,” said Bolger.

“He’s in great nick and his best form is on good ground so I wouldn’t be bothered if it rains or not. As long as it is safe he won’t mind it quick.

“We haven’t seen any changes in him in the last 12 months to suggest that he isn’t still enjoying it so we’ll have shot.

“He might be 15 soon but I remember Fred Winter having a horse that was still winning races when he was 18!

“He’s in great form anyway and I’m looking forward to running him.”

As well as Spot Thedifference, Bolger has two other possibles in the shape of Freneys Well and Moscow Maui.

“We’ll make a decision nearer Friday which one of them will run, it will depend on how they are,” he continued.

“They are both young horses and Freneys Well was second to ’Spot’ in the La Touche at Punchestown this year. He jumps those fences well.

“Moscow Maui has never been over those fences and would want it a bit softer. There is a chance all three could run.”
