Last tango for Alex
Alexander Tango is set for a well-deserved winter break following a fruitful trip to America.
Tommy Stack’s filly has turned in a string of consistent efforts this term, culminating in a Grade One win in the Garden City Stakes at Belmont last month.
The daughter of Danehill Dancer defeated Bit Of Whimsy in that nine-furlong contest and the form has subsequently been boosted as the runner-up notched her own win at the highest level over the weekend.
Alexander Tango is entered in the Breeders’ Cup Filly And Mare Turf on Saturday week but she will not be taking up that engagement.
“She’s finished for the season now and she won’t be going for the Breeders’ Cup. She’s in quarantine in Kentucky and will be coming back in the next month or so,” said Fozzy Stack, son and assistant to the trainer.
“She had gone in her coat the last time she ran and she’s had eight races this year so we decided to just leave her alone.
“The form of her win has worked out very well and the trip was definitely worth it as she’s a Grade One winner now.
“She has improved all year and hopefully she can find a bit more over the winter now too.
“We’ll be looking at something like the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes (at the Curragh) to start back next year.”
Stack has an exciting year to look forward to, with Myboycharlie a possible Classic contender after his win in the Prix Morny and third place in the National Stakes.
“He has finished for the year and we’ll send him for a trial before deciding which route we take,” added Fozzy Stack.
“It’s too hard to say at the moment which way we’ll go. We’ll probably go to Leopardstown and then see if we follow the Guineas route or go sprinting.”
Myboycharlie is a 20-1 shot with the sponsors for next year’s Stan James 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
