High-class colt Winker Watson will not run again this year after meeting with a slight setback.

Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Norfolk and July Stakes winner was pencilled in for a dual Group One assault on Friday’s Middle Park and the Dewhurst.

However, the son of Piccolo has been sidelined due to stiffness of a near-fore knee which was diagnosed on Tuesday evening.

Chapple-Hyam told the Racing Post: “There’s no injury as such and he’ll be fine again quite soon.

“In fact, he could have run in the Dewhurst, perhaps even the Middle Park.

“But there would have possibly been a risk of doing some damage, so it was agreed to call a halt for the season.

“Winker is going to a very classy three-year-old.”
