Zambezi set for Arc prep

Pascal Barry has warned that Zambezi Sun is expected to need the run when he goes on trial for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this weekend in the Prix Niel.

The Khalid Abdulla-owned three-year-old is third favourite with most bookmakers for the end-of-season showpiece following his five-length victory in the Grand Prix de Paris.

But Barry is keen to stress that the Prix Niel is being used purely as a trial as Abdullah looks to follow up the victory of Rail Link last year.

“He had an important gallop at Chantilly racecourse on Tuesday of last week with Stephane Pasquier in the saddle with one leader and I think he is in excellent condition since the Grand Prix,” said Barry.

“He will be having a final canter on Thursday with one lead horse on Les Reservoirs gallops and he will need the run in the Niel on Sunday as the principal race is the Arc three weeks later. The colt is very well,” he told the Racing Post.
