Tajdeef a champagne possible

Tajdeef is being considered for the Urban-I Champagne Stakes at Doncaster next month after missing an engagement at York due to unsuitable ground.

The Barry Hills-trained colt made a pleasing debut over six furlongs at Newbury when scoring by five lengths earlier this month.

He had been set to try seven furlongs in the Acomb Stakes last week but was withdrawn as the going was on the slow side.

“It’s a question of whether we go six or seven furlongs,” said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

“We’ll have a look at the Champagne at Doncaster. I just have to discuss it with Sheikh Hamdan.

“He’s quite a quick horse out of a fast mare. He’s won well over six so it’s just a question whether we step up to seven or stay at six.

“He’s a low-actioned horse and Sheikh Hamdan did not want to run him on anything other than good or faster ground, which was why we took him out at York.”
