Today’s fixture at Carlisle has been abandoned due to waterlogging in areas of the course.

Although the venue enjoyed a milder day yesterday following recent significant rainfall, the storm clouds returned overnight and left clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell with no option but to draw stumps.

“We’ve had to abandon,” he explained. “There were waterlogged parts at the bottom of the home straight and about four and a half furlongs out, just off the stable bend.

“There was basically only about five yards of raceable ground there and we’d been hoping after a dry day yesterday it would dry out.

“But we had 11 millimetres of rain last night and after looking for the last 30 minutes we just felt it wasn’t in the interests of safety to race.”
