Wolf in July hunt
Amadeus Wolf is on course for the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Friday week.
Kevin Ryan’s speedster was well-fancied for the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot but could finish only 11th behind the Jeremy Noseda-trained Soldier’s Tale.
However, a genuine excuse subsequently emerged for that disappointing effort and connections now report their promising colt to be back in flying form at home.
“He came back fine from Ascot but we scoped him and he just had a bit of mucus on him afterwards,” explained Ryan.
“It was a shame but these things happen in racing. He’s scoped clean since and he’s in great form again now – he’s absolutely bouncing. He’ll work again before the July Cup and we’ll hopefully go there.”
Prior to his Ascot run, Amadeus Wolf had returned to action with a taking success in the Duke Of York Stakes on the Knavesmire.
The Barry Hills-trained Red Clubs chased him home that day and went on to finish a close fourth behind Soldier’s Tale in the Golden Jubilee.
Ryan was pleased to see that runner underline the merit of the York race, and added: “It was good to see Red Clubs run well at Ascot as that ties in well with his York form.”
Amadeus Wolf is available at 16-1 with Ladbrokes for the July Cup next week.
