Late decision on Dandy run
Tracey Collins admits being “apprehensive about the ground” ahead of Dandy Man’s scheduled run in the Betfair Temple Stakes at Sandown tomorrow evening.
A late decision is likely on whether the smart sprinter takes his chance in the Group Two contest as the going at the Esher track is on the soft side.
“We’ve been very pleased with his preparation. He’s very well, but we’re apprehensive about the ground,” said the Curragh trainer.
“We’re waiting to see. He’s not due to travel over until the morning so we’ll make a decision then. I’ll have to discuss it with the owners.”
It would be his first outing since he was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed’s wife, Princess Haya of Jordan. He had run in the colours of the late Alfie McLean, a leading bookmaking figure in Northern Ireland, who died two years ago.
“He’s a high-profile horse and a lot of people have been interested in him. Princess Haya has taken him over and hopefully he’ll be very lucky for her. He’s a nice horse to have in the yard,” continued Collins.
Should the going be unsuitable for Dandy Man tomorrow, he could still have a prep run ahead of Royal Ascot.
“If he doesn’t run tomorrow he’ll probably turn up at Naas on Monday in a Listed race over five furlongs,” she added.
