More woe for Queally
Tom Queally has been hit with a 20-day ban just two days after getting a three-week suspension.
His latest punishment was handed out an inquiry by the Wolverhampton stewards that had originally been adjourned from April 30.
It followed the mile-and-a-half fillies’ maiden in which Super Sifted, trained by Henry Cecil, finished runner-up to Pentasilea. Teodora Adivina, the 4-7 favourite and also trained by Cecil, was a neck away third.
The stewards found Irish-born Queally in breach of Rule 158 – failure to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing - and suspended him for 20 days on dates that will be notified to him by the Horseracing Regulatory Authority.
Queally was banned for 21 days (May 23-June 12) under Rule 157 – the ’non-triers’ rule – and Barney Curley fined £3,000 under Rule 155(ii) over the running and riding of Zabeel Palace at Nottingham on Saturday.
Both rider and trainer lodged appeals today with the HRA against those punishments. A date for the hearing has yet to be arranged.
