Apprentice jockey Mark Coumbe is not seriously injured following his fall at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

Coumbe was riding the ill-fated Blakeshall Boy in the Go Pontin’s Handicap when they were hampered by the Adrian Nicholls-ridden Epices, who burst a blood vessel and fell and was also put down.

“He is not too bad thankfully,” said Sash Righton, his agent.

“He is a bit battered and bruised and he did have a bit of concussion last night but essentially he is fine.

“He just has a soft tissue injury to his back. He has been very lucky really because it looked really serious at the time.

“He is very sore though and I expect him to be out of action for a week or possibly two.

“He stayed in hospital at Wolverhampton overnight for observation and they are going to give him a CT scan today but thankfully it is not too serious, he has a bloodshot eye that they want to check as well.”
