Chepstow forced to abandon

Today’s racing at Chepstow has been abandoned after further rain this morning caused the track to deteriorate to an unacceptable degree.

The course soaked up around 6 millimetres of moisture yesterday and, although it experienced a dry night, the reappearance of the rain has caused areas of false ground to develop.

“We have had to abandon,” explained clerk of the course Tim Long.

“It’s been dry overnight but it’s been raining here this morning for probably 40 minutes and it’s heavy rain now.

“After yesterday, when we had steady drizzle all day that gave us around five or six millimetres of rain, we knew we were on the edge.

“We’re at saturation point now and we’re getting areas of false ground so sadly we can’t beat it.”
