Maze fine after Fairyhouse flop

Asian Maze has been given a clean bill of health following her disappointing effort behind Brave Inca yesterday.

The Tom Mullins-trained mare was sent off the 4-7 favourite for the Ballymore Properties Hatton’s Grace Hurdle but was struggling some way from home and trailed home fourth of the five runners.

Mullins feels the heavy going at Fairyhouse did not play to her strengths and is keen to avoid campaigning her on such a surface in the future.

He said: “She’s very well but she’s a bit tired as you’d expect after going two and a half miles in that ground. It was horrible ground really and I’ll try and avoid running her on that again. She needs much better ground I think.”

While plans for the rest of the term have yet to be set in stone, Asian Maze could be back on track over the festive period – with a trip to Kempton for the Stan James Christmas Hurdle a potential option.

“She might be out again somewhere again at Christmas and if Leopardstown’s going to be heavy then Kempton might come into play for her,” he added.
