Laverty in the wars at Towcester
Jockey Derek Laverty has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a crashing fall at Towcester.
The 5lb claimer came off worst in a three-horse spill at the third-last hurdle in the bestpartiesever.com Mares’ Only “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.
Laverty’s mount, Thimblesfirth, was brought down along with Glenkill after Lady Wilde smashed into the running rail and hit the deck after appearing to be spooked by a photographer.
All three horses came out of the incident unscathed, while Isabel Tompsett and William Kennedy, who rode Glenkill and Lady Wilde respectively, were also fine after the incident.
Laverty was not so fortunate, however, and was taken to hospital for a thorough examination after having difficulty breathing.
“Derek Laverty has gone via airlift to hospital for precaution as he has bruised ribs and was having some difficulty breathing,” explained clerk of the course Robert Bellamy.
“William Kennedy is fine and back in the weighing room, as is Isabel Tompsett.”
