Bolger considering Teofilo plans

Ante-post favourite Teofilo could head straight to the Stan James 2000 Guineas without another run.

Ante-post favourite Teofilo could head straight to the Stan James 2000 Guineas without another run.

Jim Bolger has entered his National and Dewhurst Stakes winner in Sunday’s Criterium International at Saint-Cloud but with the ground on the soft side, Teofilo is a “doubtful” runner.

Bolger is also uncertain whether the Galileo colt will run in a Classic trial early next year or go to Newmarket without a run.

He told the Racing Post: “He’s a great grubber, so we’ll have to cope with that over the winter to keep the weight off him. It’s something we’ll have to deal with to get him to Newmarket fit and ready.

“There is also the question of him carrying a Group One penalty first time out on ground that is not suitable, but a lot will depend on the weather in the springtime before we know what we’re going to do.

“We’ll start looking at that around the middle of March as we might consider a racecourse gallop somewhere instead.”

Teofilo is unbeaten in five starts this term and is the 9-4 favourite with the sponsors for Guineas glory.
