Sir Percy is firmly on course for Saturday’s Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket after recovering from a shoulder problem.

Trainer Marcus Tregoning was forced to bypass last week’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after the Vodafone Derby hero pulled a muscle.

However, Sir Percy sparkled in a piece of work over 10 furlongs at Lingfield yesterday and Tregoning expects him to make his first appearance since that Epsom win in the Champion.

“He’s fine. He took his work really well and we were delighted he went so well in his gallop,” he said.

“The shoulder probably was a bit of a worry so it is a relief to see him work well.

“He’s a very fit horse though, so it wasn’t as if we had to start from scratch with him, we just had to keep him ticking over.

“It was a good bit of work and he is well on course for Saturday now.”

Sir Percy is the 9-2 favourite with Coral for Saturday’s Group One feature over 10 furlongs at Headquarters.
