Dye making good progress

Jockey Shane Dye has left intensive care after making swift progress following emergency brain surgery.

The Hong Kong-based rider suffered serious head injuries in a heavy fall from Ambitious Marju at Sha Tin on Sunday and was taken to the Prince Of Wales Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Dye’s condition has continued to improve and an update posted on the Hong Kong Jockey Club website, www.hkjc.com, read: “Doctors this morning transferred Shane Dye from intensive care to a high dependency unit at the Prince of Wales Hospital.

“The doctors are pleased with Dye’s rate of improvement since his race fall last Sunday, and are optimistic that he can be switched to a private ward in one or two days’ time as surgery is no longer necessary.”

Born in New Zealand, Dye has won most of the major races in Australia including the Melbourne Cup in 1989 on Tawriffic.
