Waves set for Feilden trial

Atlantic Waves, who has been supported in recent days for the Vodafone Derby, has a chance to cement his Classic claims in the Connaught Access Flooring Feilden Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.

After an impressive five-length romp in a Leicester maiden, the son of Sadler’s Wells went on to finish fifth in a Group Three contest at Salisbury last October but has not raced since.

However, with entries in the Stan James 2000 Guineas, totesport Dante and both the English and Irish Derbys amongst others, he is obviously well regarded by Mark Johnston has been clipped into 14-1 by Coral for the Epsom Classic.

ā€œWe thought an awful lot of him after his maiden win last year but he disappointed slightly in a Group race at Salisbury,ā€ Johnston told At The Races.

ā€œThat was a bit of a muddling race, though, and we have to hope that he can put it behind him and cope with the jump up in class.ā€

Marcus Tregoning saddles the unbeaten Salt Man in the nine furlong contest, but he admits the he is taking a shot in the dark with the Mtoto colt.

ā€œHe’s run once and won the race and it’s very difficult to place these horses,ā€ he said.

ā€œWe’re on a bit of a fact finding mission but it looks a good race and he could be a bit inexperienced for it. He’ll run a nice race though.ā€

Stan Moore is now leaning towards a tilt at the Irish 1000 Guineas with his Masaka Stakes winner rather than the Newmarket version, but he is expecting a bold show from his filly tomorrow.

ā€œThe plan is to run her in the Irish 1000 Guineas rather than the Newmarket version,ā€ said Moore.

ā€œShe’s in great form and the extra furlong will be no bother to her and hopefully she’ll have a little bit of an advantage fitness-wise.

ā€œClive Brittain’s (Rajeem) is the only other runner to have had a run and we beat that easily in the Masaka.

ā€˜You’d be hoping there are plenty of things in her favour and it’s a case of nothing ventured nothing gained.

ā€œWe’ve more or less ruled out Newmarket (Guineas) now unless she went and won very, very easily.

ā€œI think it will take a very good one to beat her and I think she’ll be better on the grass and all ground conditions come alike to her.ā€

The trio face five others in the Listed contest including John Dunlop’s maiden winner Morghim and Brian Meehan’s well-regarded Judge.
