Nicholls to field Lincoln pair

David Nicholls is likely to have two runners in Saturday’s William Hill Lincoln at Redcar.

This year’s event will take place at the seaside track while Doncaster is redeveloped and Nicholls is set to be represented by Shot To Fame and Primus Inter Pares.

The former will be having his first start for Nicholls after he was purchased out of Walter Swinburn’s yard.

“He’s all right and he’s coming along well,” Nicholls said of the seven-year-old, who started his career with Peter Harris.

“He might be just a bit short of work though.

“He seems to be a nice sort and we’re happy enough with him.”

Nicholls bought Shot To Fame on behalf of Middleham Park Racing and the trainer admits he is slightly in the dark about the Quest For Fame gelding.

“We bought him in October so it’s just a case of playing it by ear with him really and we’ll see where we go with him after Saturday,” he explained.

“Primus Inter Pares will also run as well.

“He had some smart form as a younger horse but hasn’t shown it for a while.

“He lost his way a bit last year and needs to find it back. I’m not sure who will ride him yet though.”
