This afternoon’s high-profile meeting at Cheltenham has been abandoned due to frost.

The card, which was due to feature the Victor Chandler Chase as well as the Letheby & Christopher Chase, was put in serious doubt after temperatures began to fall early this morning.

An initial look did not satisfy clerk of the course Simon Claisse and although he held further inspections at 8.30am and 9.30am, he was left with no choice but to call off the meeting.

“We have abandoned, there are no further inspections planned,” said Claisse.

“Temperatures are still just above freezing but there is a wind chill of minus three and a half degrees. We don’t believe conditions will improve but we have tried our best to get racing to go ahead.”

Meanwhile at Chepstow, a second inspection was also judged unclear and a third look has been scheduled for 10.30am.
